The Hero of Zero!

We have our loyal customers to thank after we landed the overall winners trophy as The People’s Choice in the national Zero Alcohol Awards.

Actor Larry Lamb, famous for his role as villain Archie Mitchell in Eastenders, presented us with the trophy at an awards ceremony on Thursday at London’s Barbican.

The awards, sponsored by Britvic, are organised by the alcohol education charity Alcohol Concern which is behind Dry January.

Judges – including industry experts and journalists – were impressed by the testimonies submitted by those who regularly use our services and those who discovered us during Dry January.

Some of your touching stories were read out by the soap star who added his own experience of the negative effects of alcohol.

Stories such as these can be an inspiration to others, whether you’re avoiding alcohol due to medical conditions, to pursue a healthier lifestyle, to protect your unborn child, or to overcome dependency on booze.

If you have a story that you’d like to share, we’d love to hear from you.

It’s Alcohol-Free Week 2016!

Today we celebrate the beginning of our 10th annual Alcohol-Free Week which runs from 10 – 16 February.

We started Alcohol-Free Week in 2007 to encourage people to reduce their drinking and avoid alcohol at least two days a week.

Since then interest has grown every year and we’ve been pleased to see major charities follow our lead with Dry January initiatives in recent years.

Instead of a punishing 31-day thirst, Alcohol-Free Week aims to help people make healthier choices for life and still enjoy the benefits of wine and beer.

De-alcoholised wine has all the heart-health benefits or ordinary wine and alcohol-free beer has been found to significantly reduce cholesterol. They’re also up to 70% less fattening than alcoholic equivalents.

We’ve stocked up on all your favourite wines and beers so you can drink to your hearts content.

Thanks for your vote

We’re delighted to announce that we’ve been nominated for two national awards!

A panel of industry experts has short-listed The Alcohol-Free Shop for the Best Independent Retailer title in the Zero Alcohol Awards.

Votes from our valued customers have also put us in the running for The People’s Choice prize in the awards organised by Alcohol Concern, the charity behind Dry January, and sponsored by Britvic.

Winners will be announced at a ceremony at London’s Barbican on Thursday 25 February.

We’ve been touched by some of the moving testimonials from customers old and new who’ve spoken of the positive impact our service has made to their lives.

Whatever the final decision of the awards judges, we’re proud to have made a difference and thank you for your support.

Super fizz from Carl Jung

You already love the beautiful Carl Jung Sparking white wine.

Now this renowned winery has produced a fantastic new Blanc de Blancs bubbly.

Blanc de Blancs is a sparkling wine made exclusively from the Chardonnay grape – unlike standard sparkling wines which are a blend of different grapes.

We now have this stunning wine available at the great-value price of £5.99.

Drink to good health!

The truth is out: alcohol is bad for your health.

The UK’s Chief Medical Officer has announced today that there is no safe level of alcohol consumption.

Those who do continue to drink alcohol, despite the warnings, are being advised to have three alcohol-free days a week and drink no more than 14 units a week.

This year we celebrate 10 years since we launched The Alcohol-Free Shop to a hostile reception from the alcohol industry and ridicule in parts of the media.

We hope customers old and new will join us in raising a glass to our continued success and a happy healthy New Year.

And, as always, we thank you for all your custom and support!
